Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
Using electric mixer beat the butter and sugar until fluffy, about 5 minutes.
Add the vanilla and eggs. Combine well.
Add the flour mixture a bit at a time, blend until combined.
Separate the dough into 3 disks, wrap with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
When ready to bake preheat the oven to 350ยบ F.
Crush hard candies into small bits. I place the candies in a heavy ziplock bag and pound with a mallet.
Line cookie sheets with parchment paper. You must use parchment paper or the candy will stick and make a mess!
On lightly floured working surface roll the cookie dough to 1/4 inch thickness.
Using a large heart-shaped cookie cut the dough, then using a smaller heart-shaped cookie cut dough out of large heart shape.
Place the cookies on the parchment lined cookie sheet.
Fill the centers with crushed candies, be careful to not spill any crushed candies onto the cookie dough.
Bake for 8-10 minutes. Just until the edges start to brown.
Cool completely before removing from cookie pan.
