Roasted Spiced Almonds
Roasted Spiced Almonds have the perfect balance of heat and sweet for a savory and crunchy snack, party food, or game day food.

I treasure the recipes I get from family and friends. They are tried and true recipes that have been prepared countless times, so you know they are guaranteed to be delicious! This sweet and spicy roasted almonds recipe was given to me by my good friend Ellen. She often makes big batches of these perfectly spiced nuts to give away as gifts. The taste of these almonds with their honey and spicy coating is incredible!
Enjoy a bowlful of these roasted spiced almonds with your favorite cocktail like my Vanilla Grapefruit Gin Sour or Watermelon Gin cocktail. They also work well chopped up and used as a salad topper.

Ingredients
- Raw Almonds – Fresh whole, raw almonds for this recipe. Do not use roasted or salted almonds. Almonds are high in protein and fiber, which make them a terrific snack on the go.
- Liquid Honey – in addition to adding a touch of sweetness the honey helps the spices stick to the oven roasted almonds.
- Cayenne pepper – this hot chili pepper gives these nuts a bit of heat that compliments the sweet from the honey and sugar. Adjust as desired.
- Paprika – this red spice is a milder ground chili powder. It adds an additional depth of flavor to these roasted almonds.
- Sugar – granulated sugar which helps to keep the crunch to the almonds and a bit more sweetness.
- Vegetable oil – I like using sunflower oil, but any vegetable oil will work, even olive oil.
Substitutions
This recipe also works great using pecans, peanuts, cashews, walnuts, or a mixture of nuts.
If you like a bit more heat, season spicy roasted almonds with extra cayenne pepper and paprika.
Pro tips:
- The oven must be preheated to 350º Fahrenheit to ensure the nuts roast evenly.
- Use parchment paper to line the baking sheet. This will prevent the candied coating on the almonds from sticking to the baking pan.
- Do not crowd the baking pan, place in a single layer to ensure the almonds roast evenly.
- Stir the almonds several times as they are roasting.
- Keep a close eye on the almonds while they are roasting as they can burn easily.
I find the best way to roast almonds is in the oven rather than trying to use a non-stick skillet. The oven will roast the almonds at a consistent temperature and reduce the risk of burning.
Storage
These easy to make roasted spiced almonds store well in a jar or airtight container for a couple of weeks.
